In today’s world, where gender biases and workplace stereotypes still linger, Shuti Sundaram emerges as a symbol of change. Here is Shuti’s inspiring journey, where she confronted gender biases, shattered societal stereotypes, and discovered her true calling as a spiritual business coach.
Here is what Stuti has to say about it.
Q1: What prompted you to leave your high-paying corporate job and venture into entrepreneurship?
Shuti: Well, it wasn’t an overnight decision. There were a couple of incidents that really got me thinking. One of them involved a colleague of mine who, despite doing an outstanding job, was denied a promotion just because she had taken maternity leave. That struck a chord with me. The other thing was the never-ending grind in the corporate world, where I missed out on personal moments. It was time for a change.
Q2: How did your family react when you told them about your decision to leave the corporate world and start your own business?
Shuti: It was a bit of a journey to get them on board. Initially, they saw my new path as a mere hobby. It took some time to convince them that I was truly serious about pursuing my creative side and helping others. Thankfully, my husband was quite supportive, which played a significant role in gaining my family’s acceptance.
Q3: Can you tell us more about the small celebrations you and your husband started to acknowledge your achievements along the way?
Shuti: Of course! We decided to celebrate even the tiniest victories, like landing a new client or receiving a scholarship. Our celebrations could be as simple as ordering takeout, enjoying street food, or cooking a special meal together. These little moments of joy helped us take a break and appreciate our progress.
Q4: What inspired you to become a spiritual business coach, and how does it differ from traditional business coaching?
Shuti: My journey led me to realize the vital role of healing and mindset support in entrepreneurship. I focus on helping people who are just starting out, like coaches, consultants, and healers, establish their online businesses. This means addressing issues like money-related fears, confidence hurdles, and more. It’s about going beyond the usual business coaching to embrace spirituality and personal growth.

Q5: You mentioned encountering gender biases and stereotypes in the corporate world. What advice do you have for women facing such situations?
Shuti: When it comes to dealing with male chauvinistic comments, a touch of sarcasm can work wonders for women. It’s a way of responding with humor instead of anger. For men, it’s essential to ask questions and try to understand their female colleagues as equals, shedding preconceived notions and assumptions.
Q6: If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?
Shuti: My first wish would be to provide quality education to 100 girls—empowering the next generation. For my second wish, I’d love to have my dream home by a serene water body, surrounded by nature. As for a third wish, I think the first two fulfill my deepest desires.
Q7: How do you like to spend your free time, and what’s your favorite pastime?
Shuti: My ideal way to unwind is by watching breathtaking sunsets with someone special and savoring delicious food. I’m also a big fan of music and books. Music lets my imagination run wild, and books are like portals to different worlds.
